Global edtech company D2L announced that it has appointed Mr Tony Maguire as the Regional Manager for its Australia and New Zealand arm. Mr Maguire will lead the A/NZ team of D2L by helping schools, businesses and universities to adapt to the changing economic and social needs that require students and working professionals to keep learning remotely.

Headquartered in Canada, D2L is a software company that developed Brightspace, a cloud-based learning management system. The system is used by businesses, schools and higher education for blended-classroom and digital learning.

In Australia, the learning technology market is expected to grow considerable amidst the increasing student demand for technology innovation in education services and competition amongst institutions. In 2016, the Australian edtech market was valued AU$1.45 billion. A Frost & Sullivan forecasted that by 2022, the market will grow to AU$1.7 billion at a CAGR of 3.0% during 2016–2022 [1].

About Tony Maguire – D2L Regional Director A/NZ

A technology and education industry veteran, Tony Maguire has spent 15 years as a primary school teacher. Later, he took up senior roles in leading edtech vendors like Oracle’s A/NZ higher education consulting services arm and Apple’s K-12 business in Queensland, Victoria, Tasmania and Northern Territory. He joined D2L with 20+ years of senior leadership, partnership and sales experience from multiple edtech consulting companies.

Maguire says that education has always been the central pillar for whatever he has done throughout his career. With campuses and organizations forced to shut down due to the lockdown, the role of technology in delivering intuitive, personalised and engaging courses is more important than ever, he adds. However, he feels that even before the pandemic, the education sector was rapidly transforming to digital-first experiences and the lockdown just pulled the future forward. Within 2 weeks, on-campus and blended learning was forced to go 100% online and the infrastructure challenges faced were enormous.

About D2L – an efficient edtech platform

At D2L, its people believe that learning is the foundation on which all achievements and progress rely. Working together with businesses internationally, D2L has transformed the way hundreds of thousands of people learn online and in the classroom.

When Maguire was working with local and international businesses and universities as an independent edtech consultant on their migration journey to SaaS platforms, he found that Brightspace by D2L was the most efficient, complete, intuitive and frictionless platform he’d seen. The cloud-based platform built by D2L, Brightspace is created by educators, for educators and works on any device. The platform is a worry-free, secure technology that always puts its customers first.

It also allows easy creation of engaging courses with a business’s existing technology. With Brightspace, setting up individual learning paths for students, tracking their progress and providing them feedback is also possible.
