Spotify starts a dedicated Kids app for Premium Family subscribers

In a movement to promote family subscriptions to its app, Spotify has announced the launch of a dedicated Kids application.

More About Spotify Kids

It enables children three and up to hear to their music, both online and offline. Children can also examine playlists and suggestions picked by experts and more. Additionally, the music collection is refined so that songs won’t have explicit content.

Spotify Kids is a set of hand-picked playlists over categories.

The app covers categories like Movies & TV, top hits, and activities like bedtime, homework, playtime, etc., genres, seasonal, Spotify Originals, artist/groups, and Stories.

The playlists are all compiled by human editors, not algorithms, which is a preferred way to set guidelines for what’s suitable for children.

The editors, Spotify says, have experiences from some of the most well-known brands in the children’s entertainment industry.

These include Nickelodeon, Disney, Discovery Kids, Universal Pictures, Public Service (Sweden), and BookBeat which a family and kids-oriented audio streaming service.

The new app is not just for the preschool set. Instead, it can develop with the kids as they get older, though still, are not ready for the parents’ application yet.

Spotify Kids is initially available in beta, while Spotify works to improve the experience based on further insights gained from use as well as parents‘ feedback.

The app is now available in Ireland on iOS and Android but is moving out to all markets soon, mentioned by the company.

The Purpose of the New Release

The launch is a beginning in the online music streaming space, where kids on parents’ music programs typically sign in within the same app, just with a separate login.

Spotify feels that children deserve their personal space, where the music they hear is available in an ad-free environment.

Spotify wants to build a place for children where they won’t unintentionally encounter lyrics that parents disapprove of, and where content is hand-curated by supervisors.

A Host of New Additions

This isn’t the prime move Spotify has made in current months to better provide to families.

The company this summer started a dedicated streaming hub in partnership with Disney, where families could obtain favourite songs, playlists and soundtracks.

It also combined parental controls to Premium Family accounts soon after and began a unique “family mix” with songs that everyone like.
