Apple announced its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2021 earlier in March. On March 24th, the tech titan officially unveiled the complete schedule for its most awaited event of the year. 

The iOS creator company confirmed that WWDC 2021 will be held online and will consist of insightful keynote addresses, engineering sessions, Platforms State of the Union, 1-on-1 labs and much more. Here’s everything you need to know about the WWDC 2021 digital-only event.

Apple’s most-awaited mega event Worldwide Developers Conference 2021 is to kick off on June 7, Monday at 10 AM PDT. Looking at the global pandemic scenario, the event will be held online.

Apple Keynote

Date & Time: June 7, 10 AM PDT 

Worldwide Developers Conference 2021 will commence with the unveiling of the company’s new and exciting updates that will be coming to all Apple platforms later in 2021. 

The keynote address will be available on www.apple.com and will be streamed directly from Apple Park. 

You can watch it on Apple TV app and Apple Developer app. If you don’t have either, don’t worry because the event will be streamed on YouTube as well and will be available on-demand with playback available even after the conclusion of the stream. 

Platforms State of the Union

Data & Time: June 7, 2 PM PDT 

State of the Union will give developers a deeper dive into the new tools, advances, technologies and developments across all Apple platforms that’ll help Apple developers build even better apps. 

Platforms State of the Union will be streamed via the Apple Developer website and the Apple Developer app. 

Apple Design Awards

Date & Time: June 10, 2 PM PDT 

The Apple Design Awards is the celebration of the creativity, craftsmanship, artistry and technical achievement of Apple developers. You can catch the Apple Design Awards on the Apple Developer website and the Apple Developer app.

Apple says that Worldwide Developers Conference 2021 will provide unprecedented access to Apple engineers and designers for developers:

Apple introduced a new Pavilions initiative for its WWDC 2021 event. These ‘Pavilions’ are to provide developers “an easy way to explore relevant labs, sessions and other special activities for a given topic.” It will be exclusively accessible through the Apple Developer app. 

Moreover, Apple will be hosting Digital Lounges at WWDC 2021. The “Lounges” are supposed to offer text-based Q&A sessions, in addition to “special activities related to developer tools.” 

MacOS, iOS, iPad, watchOS & tvOS updates by Apple

Software updates by Apple

MacOS Updates

Apple says that its MacOS 11.4 will bring support for additional graphics cards. It will also bring various bug fixes. Additionally, just like the new iOS, macOS will also support paid podcast subs. 

There have not been any leaks around macOS. In 2020, the all new Big Sur version of mac introduced some powerful changes, which included a complete redesign. This year, macOS 12 might bring some minor changes to the desktop operating system.

watchOS 

Apple brings Apple Card Family for the new watchOS 7.5, in addition to support for additional health features in Peru and Malaysia. Expense tracking will also be made available for Apple Card users. WatchOS 8 is expected to focus on fitness and health. An expected feature in watchOS 8 is the app of Notes.

iPadOS 15 & iOS 15 expected updates

Apple will be announcing its iOS 15 & iPadOS 15 software soon. These are the company’s most important software platforms that power iPads and iPhones respectively. Not many deets have been revealed, however, you can expect performance and stability enhancements. It is rumored that Apple will enable users to set different preferences for notifications. There might be changes made to iMessage. The overall focus, of course, will be on privacy. There’s a chance of Apple introducing a new Home Screen for the iPad. New accessibility features will also be coming to the devices.

TVOS/HomePod 

tvOS/HomePod 14.6 will be getting their bugs fixed. A few color balance changes will also be seen for tvOS.

Apple Hardware updates at WWDC 2021

As WWDC is a conference centered around developers. hardware isn’t really a priority. However, Apple has used its WWDC events in the past to make announcements about its hardware. There are rumors floating around the arrival of MacBook Pro’s 14 inch and 16-inch versions. These are also expected to have physical function keys rather than Touch Bars, in addition to more ports and an SD card slot.

It is also said that the new MacBook Pros will be powered by M1X chips that have 10-core CPU with 8 high-performance cores along with 2 energy cores, 32-core or 16-core GPU and upto 64 GB memory support.

Another hardware update at the WWDC 2021 can be about Airpods 3. According to leaks, the 3rd generation might have similar features to Airpods Pro. It also might have interchangeable tips, shorter stem and small charging cases than Airpods Pro.
