Very Soon, Cars Will Read Driver’s Brain Waves

According to the latest artificial intelligence news, vehicles will be able to interpret signals from the driver’s brain within five to ten years. Unveiled by Japanese motoring giant Nissan, the Brain-to-Vehicle (B2V) cars will anticipate acceleration, steering and braking movements before the driver has even performed them.

This new technology will help speed up drivers’ reaction times with the objective of making the drive safer and more fun. Daniele Schillaci, executive vice president of Nissan explained that when most of the people think about autonomous driving, they have a very impersonal vision of the future, where humans relinquish control to the machines. And this vision would not be the same anymore. Thanks to the B2V technology. This new technology will use signals to “de-code” our minds so driving is even more exciting and enjoyable.

This new technology is a result of Nissan’s research into the use of brain decoding technology, which can help predict an individual’s actions and detect discomfort. First, this new feature will identify that the driver’s brain is about to initiate an action such as taking a turn or changing the gear, and then it will assist the driver to begin the action more quickly. After evaluating driver’s actions, artificial intelligence will help in changing the driving configuration when in autonomous mode.

The automobile manufacturer’s objective is to offer optimum level of driving assistance in manual driving mode, which can help the driver be in complete control of his or her car.
