1. TikTok

It doesn’t look as if the TikTok fever is dying anytime soon. TikTok was the most downloaded application in the second quarter of 2022. This was the eighth time in the last ten quarters that TikTok has maintained the pole position on this front. 

2. Instagram

Instagram, which is owned by Meta, was the most mobile application in Asia in Q2 2022 for the fourth consecutive quarter, followed by Facebook. Instagram is the most widely used app in India, accounting for 65% of all Instagram downloads in Asia.

3. Facebook

While a majority of the younger generation have either switched over to TikTok and Instagram, the might old Facebook continues to remain one of the most popular applications in 2022. 

Even today, Facebook remains the most widely used social networking app in the world. It is extensively used for both – having social and professional conversations. Facebook dethroned TikTok from the top rank on Google Play in the U.S. this year in terms of the most downloads.

4. Whatsapp

Having been downloaded more than 100 billion times, WhatsApp is one of the most well-known and commonly used messaging applications in the world. O WhatsApp also makes supports international audio and video calling, it is one of the most popular applications today. WhatsApp climbed one position to take the third-most installed position in Europe this year. 

5. Snapchat

Snapchat is the fifth most popular application in 2022. It is safe to say that the app has done pretty well considering most of its major rivals have introduced similar features to their applications. For example, Instagram introduced a series of filters and stickers – one of the USPs of Snapchat when it was released. 

As of April 2022, India had the largest global Snapchat user base, with 144.35 million users. The US ranked second with over 107 million Snapchat users. Parents have raised concerns about their children’s privacy since it is extensively used by young people, especially those under the age of 16.

All in all, it is safe to say that all the major applications continue to remain popular despite the launch of thousands of applications each day. TikTok, Snapchat, and Instagram are touted to remain the most popular applications even in 2023 due to their vast range of unique features that are primarily appealing to the younger generation.
