You now live in a world where you don’t need to stress every time you misplace your keys. With Volkswagen’s latest Siri integration on its Car-Net application, all your key-related worries can now disappear. Read on to find out more about what this Siri integration actually means for Volkswagen car users.
What VW Cars get from the Integration
The new integration feature includes Siri commands as well as voice controls for Volkswagen cars through their Car-Net mobile app which will help owners interact with their vehicles. The application supports iOS 12.
The features include:
- Locking your car
- Unlocking your car
- Honking
- Flashing your lights
- Get your fuel or charge level
- Check your estimated mileage
- Turn on alarms
- Set the defroster
- Adjust the car’s temperature
- Search for your car (“where’s my car” command)
The app also has the ability to set up a geofence around the car, which allows the vehicle to travel only within the set distance or boundary, and it alerts you if it leaves that area. Sneaking the car out just got a lot more difficult. In all seriousness though, it is a big help in theft mitigation. The app also comes with a suite of other security and service features like automatic crash notifications, manual emergency calls, roadside and stolen vehicle assistance.
The services available on the Car-Net app are subscription-based, so you can either pay for them on a monthly or annual basis. The charge for the monthly subscription is $17.99 and the annual subscription comes up to $199.
The Convenience Factor of the Siri Integration
There is no more of idle sitting while you wait for your car to heat up so that you don’t freeze early in the morning. There is no need to hunt for your car in the mall’s parking lot. The stress of car theft has also reduced greatly. With the Siri integration, lives just got a lot simpler, which was the main idea behind the application.
“We are constantly looking at innovative ways to make VW Car-Net more convenient and relevant for our customers,” said Abdallah Shanti, EVP, Global Chief Information Officer Volkswagen Brand & Car-IT. “With Siri Shortcuts, creating voice commands to use with our mobile app was a great opportunity to do just that! Integration with Siri helps our drivers keep eyes on the road and hands on the wheel.”
Voice Commands in Vehicles
Volkswagen is definitely not the first automobile company to integrate voice commands with its cars.

Mercedes-Benz’s MBUX platform has the ability to let drivers switch on the heads-up display, receive recommendations for restaurants, and pull up scores during games with speech. Meanwhile, BMW’s bespoke voice assistant changes the car’s settings completely – the lighting, temperature and the music – when it hears, “Hey BMW, I’m tired”. Audi, Toyota and Ford cars also sport similar integration services with Alexa.
