What does body therapy training mean?

Body therapy is a collective term for all professional therapeutic treatments for the body. Body therapy training is available in several variants at YHHS, such as skin therapist, massage therapist, and spa therapist. We offer both private courses and higher vocational education that are CSN-eligible.

Skin therapist training

Skin therapy is a body therapy training that gives you broad knowledge about the skin on both the body and the face. In combination with skin therapy, you will also receive training in spa or massage therapy. The combination increases the chances of getting a job immediately after graduation. During the education, you will gain solid knowledge in a number of areas, such as:

  • Anatomy and physiology. As a skin therapist, you need to have knowledge of surrounding factors that affect the skin, such as diet, exercise and other routines.
  • Dermatology. With good knowledge of dermatology (the study of the skin) and anomalies in the skin (vascular malformations), you can, among other things, understand the effect of UV light on the skin and the responsibility of skin care.
  • Skincare. As a skin therapist, you need good knowledge of skin care. Different skin types, treatments, skin care products and makeup are some examples of areas that are touched upon during the course. You will also gain practical knowledge about independently planning and carrying out treatments.
  • Body care. In addition to knowledge of the sensitive skin of the face, you will also receive training in body care. A skin therapist should have the knowledge required to perform treatments on the whole body.

Massage therapist training

Massage therapy is a body therapist training that gives you a good knowledge of the body’s anatomy, and you can help people in pain to have a functioning everyday life. During the education, you will also become a skin therapist, which is an attractive combination in the labour market. The skin and massage therapist training is available in Stockholm, and you will gain knowledge in several areas, such as:

  • Anatomy. You will gain an in-depth knowledge of the parts of the skeleton, the attachments and functions of the muscles as well as common injuries linked to the skeleton, muscles and joints. The content of the course corresponds to the requirements required to become a certified masseur by the Swedish Massage Industry Council.
  • Hair removal. The education includes courses that give you the conditions to independently carry out hair removal with different forms of wax as well as permanent hair removal methods such as electric needle epilation.
  • Spa and stretching. You will gain knowledge about different types of spa treatments and stretching. Being able to remedy muscle tension and reduced mobility are important skills of a massage therapist.

Spa therapist training

Spa therapy is a body therapist training that gives you a solid knowledge of spas and treatments and also includes skin therapy. The combination of spa and skin therapy is sought after in the labour market and gives you good conditions for getting a job immediately after education. You can take a number of courses that give you knowledge about, among other things:

  • Manicure and pedicure. You will gain knowledge of both anatomy and physiology of both the hand and foot in order to independently perform massage and nail care.
  • Body care. After training, you can independently perform treatments on the body, for example, massage and cleansing. The course also includes knowledge of CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation).
  • Hair removal. You will gain knowledge about the anatomy of the hair and the physiological causes of unwanted hair growth. At the end of the training, you can independently implement various types of hair removal methods.

The skin and spa therapist training are available in both Stockholm and Gothenburg.

Entrepreneurship

All body therapist courses include courses in entrepreneurship. You also get to complete a salon internship no matter what training you attend to gain knowledge of ethical and moral guidelines in the labour market. You also have the opportunity to take a CIDESCO degree after completing your education in order to be able to work internationally. Read more about our courses and what courses they contain.

What does it take to attend body therapy training?

To become a skin therapist, basic education or real competence is required regardless of whether you choose a focus on massage or spa. The most common way to go is through a high school diploma or equivalent education abroad. You can also be admitted by applying for real competence where your conditions are assessed by us.

If more applications than places are notified, the selection takes place through a special test to rank all applicants. The test is not mandatory but an implementation increases your chances of being admitted. The application takes place at yh-antagning.se and closes two months before the start of the course, but there is a chance of late applications being received subject to availability.

Do not hesitate to contact us if you have any further questions about our training, and apply today to attend a first-class international skin therapist training!
